Ninja TV: Widow’s Bay is now on Apple TV

news

A new horror-comedy series for those who love gloomy seaside towns, strange legends, and dark humor.

The first episodes of Widow’s Bay, a new horror comedy from Katie Dippold, are now available on Apple TV. The story follows a small island town in New England that locals believe is cursed. But mayor Tom Loftis does not believe in superstition and wants to turn Widow’s Bay into a popular tourist destination. The only problem is that after visitors arrive, very strange things start happening in town.

Our ninja recommendation for the evening: choose something you love from the Ninja Pizza menu and enjoy an atmospheric watch. And share your thoughts in the Instagram comments.

What is the series about?

Widow’s Bay is a story about a town that looks like the perfect place for a getaway: the sea, old houses, cozy streets, and the feeling that you can escape the noise of the big world here.

But this place has a dark side. The residents are convinced that the town is cursed, while mayor Tom Loftis tries to convince everyone otherwise and turn Widow’s Bay into a new tourist attraction. The more people arrive on the island, the harder it becomes to ignore the strange events happening around them.

In terms of mood, the series combines mystery, horror, and comedy: there are eerie legends, absurd situations, and characters who seem a little too used to living next to something supernatural.

Key actors

The lead role is played by Matthew Rhys (The Americans, Perry Mason). He plays mayor Tom Loftis, a man who really wants to see Widow’s Bay not as a cursed place, but as a promising tourist project.

Also starring:

Kate O’Flynn (Landscapers, Everyone Else Burns)

Stephen Root (Barry, King of the Hill)

Kevin Carroll (The Leftovers, Snowfall)

Dale Dickey (My Name Is Earl, Breaking Bad)

Kingston Rumi Southwick (Presumed Innocent, 56 Days)

Critics’ reviews

The first reviews for Widow’s Bay are very positive. The first season currently has 100% positive critic reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, while on Metacritic the series received a score of 79 out of 100 and a generally favorable status.

Critics especially highlight the unusual mix of genres: the series does not try to be only scary or only funny, instead building its atmosphere around the town’s strangeness, its residents, and the growing feeling that the legends might turn out to be true.

Episode release schedule

Widow’s Bay premiered on April 29 on Apple TV. The first two episodes were released on premiere day, and the first season will have 10 episodes in total. New episodes will be released weekly on Wednesdays, with the finale scheduled for June 17.
